Hello doctor,

My grandmother's blood glucose levels are high, and she has had diabetes for the past 40 years. She is 65-year-old and is taking her diabetic pills as usual everday. Her last blood sugar levels are 145 mg/dL. I go to the gym daily for a workout, and my trainer said that following a Mediterranean diet will help decrease blood sugar levels. Kindly help me and elaborate. Also, what foods should my grandmother takes to keep it at stable levels?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As for diet for diabetes, avoid sweet sugar, honey, jaggery marmalade, chawanprash, coconut water, ORS (oral rehydration solutions), water juices, and biscuits rusk. Fruits should only include papaya, guava, and kiwi. Replace white rice with brown rice and flour and bread with multi-grain. Walk, do yoga, and exercise as health permits. Avoid potato, green peas, carrot, and beet and can take green leafy vegetables and pulses.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
