Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 60 years old and my fasting blood sugar level is 342 mg/dl and my postprandial (taken two hours after a meal) level is 384 mg/dl. I also have a urological problem (enlargement of the prostate). Give me some advice on how to lower my sugar level. Please tell me about which food I can have and which I should not. Can I take any fiber food supplements? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We appreciate you for contacting us.

To control diabetes, the most important factors are exercise and diet. I suggest you do the following:

  1. Exercise daily for at least 30 minutes which includes walking, swimming, and so on.

  2. Always select small frequent low glycemic index foods.

  3. Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid a fat-rich diet.

  4. You can take a high fiber high protein slow release carbohydrate diet and can also take fiber-rich food supplements.

Regarding treatment, the best option to control such high sugar levels is insulin therapy. But if you are not willing to take insulin, then you can start on combination therapy like tablet Metformin and tablet Glimepiride with or without DPP4 inhibitor. Anyway, consult your doctor and discuss this.

It was truly a pleasure to have you at icliniq.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
