Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife has high blood pressure and has been taking Losartan as prescribed by the doctor. She stopped taking it for two days due to an allergic reaction and changed to Neobloc 50 mg for weeks. Due to being out of stock, she has been taking Amlodipine for days, and right now, she feels dizzy and weak. We would like to ask if she can continue 10 mg Amlodipine or return to 50 mg Neobloc. Please guide me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your wife has hypertension. The important aspect of treating high blood pressure is to keep it under control with lifestyle changes, diet and exercise, and necessary medications. Both Amlodipine and Metoprolol are good medicines. However, it is advisable not to stop Neobloc (Metoprolol) suddenly as you can have rebound hypertension.

If she was getting dizzy and weak, she has to get her blood pressure checked as both high, and low blood pressure can give rise to similar symptoms. She can continue Amlodipine if it can adequately control her blood pressure. Dose to be decided after measuring the blood pressure. Please continue a salt-restricted diet.

I hope this was helpful. Please get back if you have further queries.
