Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have high inflammation in the gut. The Zonulin level in the stool is 1500. How to lower this value fast? Also, I have been feeling extremely tired for one month already. I just eradicated SIBO one month ago by taking the tablet Rifaximin. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You have rightly said that there is high inflammation in the gut as Zonulin-related proteins get raised in conditions that increase gut permeability. It commonly happens when the gut becomes inflamed. Your levels are very high. The most common cause of raised Zonulin (hepatoglobulin precursor) levels in stool co-relates with a condition named inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). To make a definite diagnosis, I suggest you need further workup like gastroscopy and colonoscopy to get the tissue biopsy for histopathology that confirms the diagnosis. You may also need a CT (computerized tomography) scan based on your endoscopic examination. Extreme fatigue is part of the disease. I would suggest you meet a gastroenterologist physically who can do all the examinations for you and manage accordingly. Let me know how I can help you further. After diagnosis, treatment will be started, and your zonulin level will come down to normal.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply. My gastroenterologist has ignored my claims and said there is nothing she can do. I only learned about my Zonulin through a test I ordered online. I am very weak at the moment and am not able to prepare for a colonoscopy. I can barely walk around the house. Is there anything I can do now to at least get on my feet? I also checked my C-Reactive Protein, and it was fine. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I think you need to get a second opinion from another gastroenterologist. You need to be strong at this very moment, and I know you can do it. If you still think it is hard for you, get admitted for one day then get your colonoscopy done. As you know, if we do not make a diagnosis, it is very hard to treat on assumptions. And medication has its own list of side effects, which can not be offered before diagnosis.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
