Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 28 years old. What negative impacts might braces or metal braces cause? I suffer from root resorption, tooth damage, gum issues, and wintertime discomfort. My left side has a high canine, and my jaws are misaligned. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. As you have already mentioned, there are some side effects of braces, any kind of braces. However, these side effects, if at all present, will depend on individual susceptibility and severity of malocclusion. However, the benefits of braces far exceed the side effects. Braces do not cause gum problems but are corrected by braces. Having looked at only one picture(attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), I cannot comment on the treatment plan with great accuracy. However, highly placed canines with no existing space in the arch, where all the back teeth have moved into the space where the canine should have been- will usually require extraction. Very rarely, if the patient's jaws permit, can it be done without removing premolars. On the subject of the smile being tilted, it usually happens when one side corner tooth is highly placed. However, suppose you are satisfied with the appearance of your teeth and have not been recommended braces for functional or health reasons. In that case, it is entirely your choice to go ahead with braces. I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards.
