Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 47-year-old male, who is hypertensive for the past seven years. I take daily medicine to control my blood pressure. I do not have any other problem. I went to my cardiologist last week, for the yearly medical checkup. My LDL is 170 mg/dL, HDL is 41 mg/dL, ECG is normal, and blood test came back normal. But, my calcium score test result is 0.4 (on the LAD minimal plaque), defined as minimal risk. I could not understand this calcium score test result clearly. Do I have any risk? Do I have to use statins to reduce my cholesterol level?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. A calcium score of 0 means no identifiable disease, while 1 to 99 indicates mild disease. And score between 0 to 1 indicates minimal disease. It is near normal; there is no significant risk associated. I think you should take statins because your LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is quite high. It plays a preventive role in blockages. You should have a healthy lifestyle as follows. You must avoid a fatty, oily, and high-calorie diet. You must have a low salt diet and monitor blood pressure regularly. You must perform regular exercises like brisk walking and jogging, according to your capacity, for at least 30 minutes a day and five days a week. You must eat a lot of green leafy vegetables, fruits, and fish once or twice a week and avoid meat. You must avoid smoking and alcohol habits if any. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
