Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a sexual exposure eight years ago. One month ago, I tested with 4th generation HIV rapid test kit at home. Are rapid tests accurate and trustable? Can I consider myself HIV negative, as the result is negative? Please tell me if this rapid test result which I had done is reliable and trustable.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is almost conclusive. The chances of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection tests coming positive later is almost zero. But it is better to go for an HIV antibodies test in a reliable laboratory for conclusive results and be relieved of anxiety. Do not worry about privacy. Laboratories will maintain the patient's privacy.

Thank you.
