Is the CMIA test done after 250 days of sex conclusive?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A year back I had my first sexual contact. I gave him a blowjob, and he did unprotected anal on me. I got tested for HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) with CMIA (chemiluminescent magnetic microparticle immunoassay) test two months back, and it came out negative and non-reactive. I have heard the window period is 90 days. I tested after 250 days. So is this test conclusive? I do not want to go to the test again. I have not had sex since then.

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, an HIV screening test is considered conclusive at 12 weeks and beyond after risk exposure. So you do not need to test any further. Your test result is reliable and conclusive.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor.

There is no need to worry, right? I can relax and have peace of mind and lead a normal life, right?

Answered by Dr. Kakkar

Hi, Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you do not need to worry about the risk of HIV from that particular exposure. The screening test has convincingly ruled out HIV.

Thank you.
