Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I ate a lot of grapes and had large bowel movements yesterday and today. I had a colonoscopy four months back as I had problems with the bowels. The colonoscopy was clear, and I take it the unlikelihood of anything such as bowel cancer appearing in that time frame is slim.

The other thing to note is that as I am perimenopausal, I have had to get the doctor to prescribe medication to stop these periods, which can last up to four weeks. Could this medication interfere with my bowels? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

1) I would suggest you take plenty of water, high vegetables and fruits (high fiber diet), and a polyethylene glycol sachet for constipation in case of need.

2) If you did your colonoscopy about four to five months back and it was normal, nothing to worry about. Colon lesions cannot develop within this short period.

3) If you have reviewed the medicine you are using regarding your periods, constipation is not a commonly known side effect of this drug.

I hope this helps

Thank you and take care.
