How to treat persistent itching and bumps after sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had protected sex with a woman, and a few days later, I experienced itching at the bottom of one of my ears. After 12 days, I took an HIV RNA PCR test, which came back negative. A few days later, I noticed a wart-like bump on the shaft of my penis and began experiencing body itching. After 60 days, I took an HIV Duo Combo test, which was also negative. During this period, I had intense itching and a rash near the bottom of both ears. At 90 days, I took several tests, including ELISA for HIV, hepatitis A and B, herpes, syphilis, and chlamydia—all of which were negative. However, I continued to experience small itchy red bumps on my body. After 225 days, I took an HIV Tridot test, which came back negative, but the itching and bumps persist.

It is now 314 days since the sexual encounter.

1. Should I undergo another HIV test or any additional STD tests?

2. What should I do next?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

I have gone through the case. In my opinion, if you have no contact history for almost a year then there is no need to repeat all the tests. But first, you need detailed physical examination because there are different types of itchy red bumps and some of these are linked to sex and some are not. So do not go for all tests at once.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your quick response.

But I think it must be a disease. During this period my mother also had these same symptoms that I have close contact with her. Hence, it should be a disease. What should I do? She first felt the same symptom that I had, ( itching in the bottom of ears), now body itching with bumps also. Is there a need to see a doctor?

Kindly assist.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Well, in that case when other family members are also involved then sexually transmitted disease is less likely. I advise you to apply five percent Permethrin lotion on the whole body at night and then take a bath in the morning. Ask your mother that she also apply it even if she does not have itching right now. Wash all your clothing and bedding. Repeat all procedures after a week. It could be scabies and it is easily treatable.

Please feel free to reach out if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
