Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got blood work to figure out as I was hearing loud belly noises. My heart rate was normal and the doctor asked me to return to blood work in two days. After two days my blood work and my heart rate were normal. On the third visit, the heart rate was normal. The doctor said my cholesterol was very high, and I would need to take a statin to help lower it. I begin to take Pravastatin and was ordered a follow-up after three months. On the fourth visit the same blood work was done and my heart rate was 38 beats per minute. It was checked twice and the doctor told me that I have a heart rate that of a person with stents and asked me to consult an ER. Did the doctor poison me with these drugs? The doctor asked me to come back and see her in six months. Can you please give me some advice?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Pravastatin is a statin group of medicine that is usually given to correct the elevated cholesterol levels in your body. The most common side effect is myalgia (muscle fatigue), but in no way it can cause extreme bradycardia (heart rate 38 bpm). You should consult a cardiologist and get an echocardiogram, Holter and treadmill tests. These are baseline tests for cardiology, a heart rate as low as 38 bpm should be taken seriously as it may also cause cardiac arrest. There is no side effect of statin. I hope I have cleared all your doubts. Thank you.
