Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Please can you interpret my recent laboratory report? Why my hemoglobin is kept dropping all the time? Why my blood report is abnormal? Do you think I have blood cancer? Or any other cancer? Do you want me to go to an oncologist?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Hereby, I am giving you my opinion regarding your reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Your CBC showing microcytic hypochromic anemia. Anemia means a low hemoglobin level oxygen-carrying capacity of blood gets affected. Your reticulocyte is high and polychromasia present with high bilirubin. So you can have hemolytic anemia and iron deficiency anemia combined picture.

I suggest following investigation for you:

  1. Serum ferritin.
  2. Serum TIBC (total iron binding capacity).
  3. Serum transferrin receptor saturation.
  4. Hb electrophoresis by HPLC method.
  5. G6PD testing.

According to reports, a further management plan can be decided. You will need an iron tablet or injection to improve hemoglobin level but above reports have to be done to find the cause. In hemolytic anemia, RBC destruction occurs and the underlying cause is searched for that. Your report is not showing any cancer sign so do not worry.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
