Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son is 16 months old. He was 5.4 lbs during birth. Now, he is 20 lbs. He is taking three to four meals per day. He is also given Enfamil formula milk. But, his weight gaining is very slow. My local pediatrician has prescribed Lysiplex suspension for two months and Calcium suspension for four months. Should we start these medicines? Can you suggest some healthy food to help him gain weight?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

1. It is a common complaint to pediatricians from almost 90% of mothers that the child is not gaining weight appropriately.

2. It looks like your child's weight is fine when considering his birth weight. Infants triple their birth weight as they complete their first year of life. (5.5 x 6.61 = 16.5 lbs).

3. Now your child is 16 months and weighs around 20 lbs is a good weight. No need to worry.

4. Continue to breastfeed as long as possible (even up to 2 years). You can use formula feeds if you feel breastfeeding is inadequate.

5. Give a fruit twice per day and all types of vegetables. Feed him every 2 hourly. You can continue his calcium supplement.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son is 17 months old. His vaccines DTWP, HIB, IPV, OPV (all booster doses) are due for this month. My son was given all vaccines separately in the past. The doctor has advised taking the Sanofi hexavalent vaccine as IPV, but it is not available. His vaccination for hepatitis B is already done (at birth, first month, and sixth month). As hexavalent vaccine contains hepatitis B, if this vaccine is taken, will it be an overdose for hepatitis B? Will it create any problem? Is it safe to take this newly launched vaccine?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It does not cause any overdose. I suggest you giving the vaccine to your baby.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
