Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 18-year-old female attending high school, and I believe I might have a mental abnormality. My whole life, I have been one who is late to everything, has difficulty listening to people, zones out for long periods throughout the day, often in a mid-conversation, and cannot be doing one thing for more than 20 minutes before getting mentally and physically stressed or anxious. I have had these issues my whole life, but lately, I have noticed a change in my behavior. I notice myself forgetting important events, interrupting people, misspelling very simple words, getting easily frustrated, zoning out to the point where friends wave their hands in front of my face to snap me out of it, physical restlessness, forgetting schoolwork or completing the wrong schoolwork, overactive imagination, over sensitivity to sound touch, light, and smell, is concerning to me, I have been getting periods of cloudiness where I cannot understand what people are saying or how to write or where I am or what is going on; they are speaking and I can tell that they are speaking and I can see where I am, but it is as if my brain does not know what to do with that information. As a result, I get scared, and that makes it worse. These usually last around 10 to 30 minutes and are accompanied by physical feelings of tightness or fear. I cannot find a common trigger for these events, so that they might be a figure of my imagination. I usually hide out in a bathroom or closet during these periods. I have no clue what is happening to me, and I do not know where to get help. If I could get a response, it would give me some relief.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your problem. This could be happening due to several reasons. Teenage-related hormonal changes could cause episodes of such symptoms. In that case, no need to get worried. These will go on their own for some time. Another possibility is panic attacks and anxiety. Anxiety could cause similar symptoms, resulting in confusion and periods when you would not know what is happening. Attention deficit is another possibility. This might present with such symptoms. There are symptoms of poor focus, conversation concentration, change in behaviors, forgetting events, restlessness, etc. You can visit a psychiatrist for a detailed evaluation.
Thank you.
