Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am developing myocarditis symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, and tightness around my heart since my first COVID vaccine. I received the vaccine during last year's beginning. I have taken EKG and currently taking tablet Ibuprofen 600 mg. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

According to your statement, you have been suffering from shortness of breath, chest tightness, and pain after getting the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Some recent studies have shown that COVID-19 vaccine-related heart muscle inflammation known as myocarditis may occur as a rare side effect of the COVID- 19 vaccine, particularly in people younger than 39 years.

COVID-19 vaccine-related myocarditis had mild symptoms which improved quickly, according to the American Heart Association.

In mild cases, no treatment is required as it improves on its own. I suggest you take painkillers like tablet Ibuprofen to relieve chest pain, steroids, or corticosteroids to help reduce the inflammation. Lifestyle modifications like proper rest, low-salt diet, fluid restriction may help to subside myocarditis.

If complications occur such as cardiac failure, arrhythmia, changes in blood pressure from pericarditis, then cardiac medications like ACEI

(angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor), ARB (angiotensin || receptor blockers), beta-blockers may be required.

In some cases, myocarditis may be subsided within a few days, but in some cases, it may take several months after taking treatment for myocarditis.

Take care. Do not worry. Stay under the supervision and monitoring of your doctor.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is it possible to make a full recovery and not have to deal with any future complications? If so, is there an estimate on how long recovery might take? Also, if my condition does not become better, should I see a cardiologist?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, it is quite possible to make a full recovery and not have to deal with any future complications.

As I have already mentioned, most cases of myocarditis will go away over time without any treatment or minimal treatment and any further complications.

It may take a few days to a few months for a full recovery. Many cardiologists suggest a resting time frame of 90 - 180 days after myocarditis of viral origin. Damaged or inflamed heart tissue may require this period of time for healing completely. During this period of time, strenuous exercises should be prohibited.

If any complications occur that have already been mentioned or if you feel unwell, then you should consult your cardiologist. Even you can visit your cardiologist for routine follow-up or assess the progress of your myocarditis.

As your doctor has prescribed only tablet Ibuprofen, I think you are suffering from a mild form of myocarditis. It will be subsided within a short time without developing any further complications.

Take care. Let me know if you have any further queries.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
