Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am experiencing blurred vision in the morning, and the vision improves only after two to three hours. My eyes always feel strained as well. I wear progressive glasses and underwent radial keratotomy 22 years back. The days on which I do not sleep well, the haziness seems to be more. What could be going on? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There could be a few possibilities. Taking age into factor, you will need to get your intraocular pressure checked. The eye pressure tends to be higher in the morning, and in younger people with ocular hypertension, it can manifest as a blurry vision in the morning. Another possibility is you might be developing a refractive error. It would help if you observed whether the blurriness is for far, near, or both. The third factor is that when some people sleep, their eyes will not be completely closed, so the eye is exposed to air overnight, which causes exposure of part of the cornea, which can cause blurry vision in the morning. This one might be associated with a slight burning or gritty sensation when you wake up. You can perhaps try applying a lubricating gel before you sleep for a few days and see if the symptoms abate. If it does not work, you will need to meet an eye specialist to check for a refractive error or high eye pressure. I hope this helps you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
