What could cause painful ulcers under the tongue after extraction?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got my teeth extracted a few days ago, my tongue got hurt that day and now I have noticed a spot under my tongue. It is not a bubble but a painful spot. I am wondering if they did this during the extraction. Kindly suggest. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I saw the picture you have attached along with the complaint (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It is a mouth ulcer that can occur due to various reasons and not because of an extraction procedure. Mouth ulcers are usually painful and resolve automatically in a few days. If not, apply Lignocaine two percent gel over the ulcer thrice daily with clean fingers. Adding nutritious food rich in vitamin B also helps to heal ulcers. I also notice a sore region in the left corner of your lips. This might be due to the opening of the mouth for a long time during the procedure. Apply petroleum jelly in the corner of your lips and this will help it heal quickly. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
