Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Please explain the relationship between a sinus problem and pregnancy. Does sinus infection be a reliable sign of pregnancy? Why does pregnancy trigger sinus issues in some women?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A lot of women have an increase in sinus congestion during pregnancy. It happens due to the increased level of estrogen during pregnancy which tends to cause vasodilation generally. Hence, they have improved blood flow through the nasal and sinus passages. It leads to symptoms such as runny or blocked nasal passages, congested sinuses, and even sinusitis. It is not a reliable sign of early pregnancy. This symptom comes along with other symptoms to indicate pregnancy. Some women who tend to have sinusitis may not be able to tell it. Women who are not usually prone to sinusitis may have it as a positive sign of pregnancy with few other symptoms.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
