Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 24 years old. I am married, and I am not taking any contraceptives. I have prolonged periods without pain for more than two weeks. My periods are not consistent for a few years. Sometimes, I get my periods once in two months. Last year, I started to have lactation. But I was not pregnant. What is happening in me? Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are not ovulating regularly, and so you have irregular periods for years. If there is a lactation, then there is a deranged prolactin level. Check your serum prolactin hormone and thyroid profile. If there is an abnormality, correct it soon. If you are taking any antidepressants or antipsychotics or any other drugs to regulate periods now, it requires a change. Gaining weight deranges the hormone levels, and the ovulation process gets stopped. So try to reduce your weight. If you ovulate regularly, with a healthy hormonal balance, you can get pregnant. Do not worry. You will get fine soon.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
