Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had yellow skin on the bottom of my face and around my mouth for at least six years or maybe longer. I have no idea what it is caused by or what it is. It does not look good. I am attaching the pictures. I am not under any medication. Kindly guide me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the pictures attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Do you have any history of atopy? Dry, scaly skin type? Do you have seborrhea? Is there any aggravation factor? Is there winter aggravation? Is it itchy? Is it burning? Is it a painful or tender lesion? Do you do excess scratching and rubbing of lesions? Use of cosmetics or chemical contact or aftershave lotion? Do you have dandruff issues? Please answer the questions so that I can guide you accordingly.

It is not painful or tender. I do not scratch. I do not use cosmetic or aftershave lotion. I do not have a dandruff issue. Kindly help me.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is sallow skin due to the collection of debris of skin (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Causes of sallow skin are vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency, Vitamin A, Vitamin C deficiency, stress, inadequate sleep, smoking, alcohol, caffeine, prolong exposure to sun or UV (ultra-violet) rays, dehydration, or improper skin care routine. Stay hydrated, drink eight glasses of water daily. Use mild cleanser or face wash that suits your skin type, say Cetaphil cleanser, twice daily for 20 days. Exfoliate once a week. Moisturize skin daily with Aquasoft cream (Glycerin) or Venusia Max cream (moisturizer) after bath for 20 days. Use sunscreen of SPF 30 (sun protecting factor) or Sper sunscreen lotion 20 minutes before bath for two months. Adequate sleep is a must. Eat healthy food rich in iron and vitamins. Eat green leafy vegetables, berries, oranges, nuts, meat, cereals, etc. Do you have flaky skin? Is there any family history and psoriasis? Are you a chronic smoker? Are you an alcoholic? What is your skin type? Please answer the questions for further help.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the explanation. I do not have flaky skin. There is no family history and psoriasis. I am not a chronic smoker nor alcoholic. I am uncertain about my skin type. Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Eat Vitamin-A-rich foods like carrot, papaya, mango, etc. Increase citrus foods in the diet like sweet lime, oranges, and avocado. Increase iron intake. Eat green leafy vegetables like spinach, cabbage, broccoli, and dates or nuts. Vitamin B12 deficiency can also lead to sallow skin. So eat chicken, meat, and eggs. Drink lots of water. Avoid coffee or tea. Drink green tea. Wash face twice daily with mild cleanser as mentioned above (Cetaphil cleanser). Scrub once a week. Can use avocado scrub once or twice a week to remove debris. Moisturize skin daily with Aquasoft or Cetaphil or Venusia max or Skin first moisturizing cream for two months. Use a sunscreen that is non-comedogenic and non-greasy of SPF 30 or 35. Is there any autoimmune disorder? Do you have renal issues? Are you anemic? Do you have low serum iron or ferritin levels? Any systemic complaints? Do you have hair loss issues? I hope this was helpful.
