Can an impacted wisdom tooth cause the lymph nodes to swell?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For the last three to four weeks, I have had swollen lymph nodes under my jaw and in my neck. I get on-and-off pain in both my ears. When I press on the area, I also have pain in my lower jaw, where my wisdom teeth are. My lower wisdom teeth are both impacted. I visited my local doctor, who said I had a bulging eardrum and moisture in my ear. I was on antibiotics for a week, alleviating the pain near my wisdom teeth. However, it has been two weeks, and my glands are still swollen, but not as severe when I press on my lower jaw, where my wisdom teeth are, it is still a little tender. I had a blood test done a week after I was on antibiotics, and my white blood cells came back slightly high, and my thyroid was somewhat low. I have had low thyroid in the past. Nothing major has appeared on the blood test. However, I am worried about that my glands are still swollen, and I also feel swelling in my neck. Could it be related to my wisdom teeth, or is it something else?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I suggest you consult an ENT surgeon to rule out any infection, such as tuberculosis. Take a chest X-ray, ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), and the Mountax test. Continue the antibiotics till you get the above test results.

Thank you.
