Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My teeth are placed a little outwards, and I am concerned that if I do not use braces, will it affect my teeth in the long run? I do not want to use braces, but as my teeth are placed outwards, I am concerned about whether they will lose their strength in the future because of the constant pressure from my lips. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

As you have outwardly placed teeth, there are chances that it may cause several issues like traumatic occlusion of the contacting teeth, aesthetic problems, and tooth abscess causing pain in teeth. In addition, sometimes forwardly placed teeth may interfere with speech and cause problems related to personality and confidence. So I suggest you consult a specialist doctor (orthodontist) and conduct a detailed checkup regarding your teeth and treatment options.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I am 27 years old, and is it too late to put braces? I already consulted one dentist, and the dentist mentioned that I have to remove two upper teeth and two lower teeth to put the braces and correct my teeth position. My queries are:

1. Is extraction of teeth needed for putting braces?

2. And will extraction of teeth affect me in the long term?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As your age is concerned, It is an ideal time to start braces and get it corrected. Extraction of teeth will help the dentist to sort out space problems, and it is proven by literature that serial extraction can be done in patients with occlusal issues, so there is no need to worry about it. I suggest you start with the treatment as soon as possible, and you can contact me for further consultation regarding any doubts.

Thank you.
