Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have pain in the ear, throat, and area near the ear, with an abnormal growth inside the mouth. I am currently not taking any medications. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. I have gone through the attached image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), and the swelling you pointed out is an inflamed tonsil. So no need to worry. It looks like an inflamed tonsil, and you are suffering from tonsillitis. You will need a course of antibiotics to manage tonsilitis. You can consult a specialist doctor and take medications with their consent. The pain in the ear is called referred otalgia, and it is because of the same nerve supply to the throat and the ear. 1. Does that swelling bleed? 2. Do you have any other swellings in the body? Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I do not have a temperature, burning sensation, or other symptoms that usually appear when I have a sore throat. However, I have a sore throat quite often. My tonsils were removed long back. Is it possible that they would grow since then? Also, why would both sides look different? I was highly paranoid when I searched about my condition on the internet, which suggested tonsil cancer, and I am now worried. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There are slight chances that the tonsil might get hypertrophied, which occurs in some people who usually suffer from allergies. Therefore, I suggest you follow these measures. 1. Avoid using citrus fruits and bananas. 2. Do a saltwater gargle daily. Since your tonsils are removed, some lymphoid tissue might have remained back, which has grown due to allergy. Usually, both sides might look different as you have undergone a tonsillectomy. No need not worry, the increase in size is due to allergy, and it is not carcinoma. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
