Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My baby is one year old. I doubt whether he is getting addicted to the smell of gutka taken by my relative and he takes care of my baby every day. He is 70 years old. Whenever my baby sees him, he becomes crazy and the baby never wants to come back easily to me. I want to know whether he is getting addicted to the intoxicating smell. Is it normal for the babies to have an attraction towards old peoples? Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please mention whether your relative is giving gutka to your baby. Please mention the kind of gutka taken by your relative. Baby can get addicted if he tastes it orally. Addiction through smell is difficult. Your baby may feel comfortable due to his normal preference or attraction with the person or affection of him or any other interesting activities and so your baby can enjoy it. Have a close watch.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

He is not giving any gutka to my baby. Please suggest the behavioral problems shown by my baby if he gets really addicted to it.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It seems to be a simple preference for the personality of that person and your baby can get some interesting action from that person. If he is a close relative and if you are having full confidence, then do not be worried. You can try to avoid contact with him slowly. Sudden separation or forceful separation may increase the problem. When the person is not there, you can give some attention to your baby and engage him in some other act which he enjoys and laughs a lot. It is a slow process and it takes a while to bring everything normal.
