Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have pain on the lower side of my left tonsil. There is no fever or visible infection. The pain began four months back after I tried to hold back a sneeze while eating and failed. I felt like the tissues in the left tonsil area were flapping violently. After a few days, I noticed pain developing gradually in the lower part of my left tonsil and it persists even now. The pain becomes prominent while swallowing or lifting my palate, but the pain is not severe. Finally, after being advised that pain could be due to an ulcer or tonsil stones, I bought an endocam, and using it. I removed all the visible tonsil stones. Within one week, I removed 16 stones, none bigger than a sesame seed and none of the stones seemed to be present at the site of pain. Now crypts that appear on all visible surfaces are empty, but the pain continues. I can provide an image of the site. Currently, I am taking Advil. I went to urgent care four days back and I was asked to consult an ENT doctor as there were stones still left. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I went through the picture and video (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It is just a simple inflammation because of the stones and the previous common cold. I suggest you follow a few instructions mentioned below. 1. Have hot fluids. Avoid icy and spicy foods. 2. Use some local oral sprays which are herbal. 3. You can take an analgesic like tablet Dolo (Paracetamol), one tablet twice daily. I suggest you answer a few questions mentioned below. 1. Do you suffer from reflux in the form of a burning sensation in your chest or stomach? 2. Do you suffer from a bitter taste in your throat while waking up in the morning? Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply. To clarify, I did not have a common cold, but it seems the issue should resolve soon. When can I expect relief? The answers to your questions are mentioned below. 1. I do experience periodic heartburns, usually after eating refined sugar. 2. I do not have a bitter taste in my throat when waking up.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Recurrent heartburn has a great role in the throat issue. I recommend you take a proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole 40 mg once daily before breakfast to end this heartburn. Heartburn is mainly an internal medicine problem and not an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) problem. So you have to follow up with an internal medicine specialist. If you do not find a herbal oral spray, you can use mouth gargles. Your problem is simple and you can expect it to get better within a few days after starting the treatment. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
