I am unable to swallow due to a painful lump under my tonsil. Please suggest a remedy.

Hi doctor,

I have a painful lump under my tonsil since a week. It hurts during swallowing. Otherwise, I have no other symptoms. I was not sick or traveled anywhere recently. My lymph nodes are also slightly swollen. I have attached a picture. Please help.

I have seen the picture (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The growth is just an enlarged lymph node in the oral cavity. You also seem to have enlarged and infected tonsils. I suggest you take a course of antibiotics like Amoxyclav (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) and anti-inflammatory enzymes like Trypsin and Chymotrypsin, a painkiller like Paracetamol and a decongestant like Phenylephrine. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take medicines with their consent. Is there any wound where it hurts while swallowing?

I suggest you do Betadine (Povidone-iodine) mouth gargles in a dilution of 1:2. Even if there is any ulcer, it will soothe the wound. Since you have enlarged lymph nodes which are also painful, antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory course is a must along with an antacid.
