Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I just got my wisdom teeth taken out a week ago, but I cannot feel the bottom left side of my jaw when I chew or bite down on something. Before I got them taken out, they told me there was a chance they would hit a nerve, and I would not feel anything in my jaw anymore.

Is that what happened?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Yes, this may happen or has happened to you. The wisdom tooth sometimes touches the nerve which supplies the lower jaw. And if the position of your tooth was like that then yes, they have hit the nerve. But in this case, no one is responsible. It was a tooth that was touching it and they had to pull it out to save the whole jaw.

Sometimes it is the anesthesia that affects the nerve. Try eating chocolate, they sometimes carry sensation back if it is anesthesia. And if not then visit the dentist once to tell them about the effects of extraction they have done so that they will prescribe you medications or do something to give your sensation back.

Thank you for consulting me.
