Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I need to talk to a gynecologist about sexual health. I need to clarify some doubts. Is there a chance of getting pregnant after unprotected sex? I had unprotected sex a week back, and after that day, I have been feeling intense nausea. I need to know when I can have unprotected sex without fearing the chances of getting pregnant?

Kindly reply.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The best period to have sexual intercourse, which is safe from contraception or pregnancy, depends upon the menstrual cycle. For example, if your menstrual cycle is of 28-day duration, then the safe period falls between the 6th to 10th day and again 2 to 3 days before your next menstrual cycle begins, that is, between the 24 to 28th day of the menstrual cycle. Both these periods are safe periods when the chances of pregnancy are almost nil.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My concern is that last week, I did unprotected sex, and now I have symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, and fatigue. Is there any chance of pregnancy?

Answered by Dr. Monica Mathur

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You have not mentioned the duration of your menstrual cycle. If it is a normal cycle of 28 to 30 days, then I can assume that you are about to have your periods tomorrow or the day after. As far as abdominal pain is concerned, you can take tablet Meftal-Spas (Dicyclomine and Mefenamic acid) twice a day for two days. For nausea, you can take tablet Pan-DSR (Domperidone and Pantoprazole) in the morning on an empty stomach for five days. If you do not get your periods within the next seven days, you can get a urine pregnancy test and revert with the reports.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My cycle gap is 28 to 35 days, and I got my periods 20 days back, and after that, I had unprotected sex. This month again, I had unprotected sex. I had severe nausea, tiredness, and heaviness till today, and I am also feeling a change in my breast.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would suggest, as a gesture of caution, taking emergency contraception within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. The chances of pregnancy seem negligible, though.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Since it is more than 72 hours, what can I do to get a confirmation on whether I am pregnant or not?

Answered by Dr. Monica Mathur

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Now you have to wait for seven days and then perform a urine pregnancy test to exclude pregnancy.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
