Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sex about 11 days ago and felt itching in the urethra three days later. There was a white cloudy discharge on the fifth day which was a lot on the first day and minimal now and has been the only consistent symptom. I experience random stinging pain at the tip and random urethral itching that comes and goes. There is testicular pain which is not there when I touch the area. I got a shot and taking Doxycycline 100 mg. How long does it take to see improvement in the symptoms? I am still going to get tested soon but, I just wanted to know if this is normal. Also, my nose is swollen from the inside and I experience random muscle twitching and body itching.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and am sorry for such discomfort. Your symptoms suggest STI (sexually transmitted infection), and there is a history of sexual intercourse also. Have you done any tests to know which STI is it? It is a treatable condition with the correct dose and duration of antibiotics. Improvement in the symptoms depends on the disease and antibiotic to cure and usually patient responds within a week. Do not worry. The symptoms would resolve soon after you get the appropriate tests done and take medication according to them. First, you should get yourself tested to know which STI it is, and antibiotics would be started based on it. Get urine and swab tests done to identify the bacteria. Please reply if you have any other symptoms to guide you better.

Please follow up if you have any further related queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I did not yet go for the tests.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do not get stressed about it. You are taking a tablet of Doxycycline and took an antibiotic injection, which would treat Gonorrhea and Chlamydia infection. You have mentioned improvement in the symptoms also. Mild urethral tip pain and itching would also improve within a week. You can follow up again after the test report which would help you to interpret the result thus lowering your anxiety.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
