Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 28-year-old female. My height is 5 feet 10 inches and I weigh 116 lbs. I developed a UTI for the first time seven years back. It was triggered by intercourse (with a new sexual partner) over one week. I healed myself by drinking a lot of water and did not experience any symptoms after a week or two. Thereafter a year, I met my partner again and we were sexually active. I started to develop UTI symptoms again. Consulted a doctor this time, who advised a urine culture test. The test showed that I had a severe infection and I took antibiotics for seven days. There was relief, but the symptoms never went away. There was still some discomfort while urinating and pain in the pelvic region. Last night, I had very severe pain in the pelvic region. I did pass gas after a while and went to the bathroom, which offered much relief, but the mild pain and discomfort have lasted through the day and until now. It slightly increases while peeing. There is also some kind of discomfort and sensitivity in the urinary opening and intermittent sensations when I suddenly need to pee.

Please tell me what I should do.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. Get a urine analysis and share the report. For recurrent post-coital UTIs (urinary tract infections), take precautions like urinating after sexual activity and washing the perineum before and after sex. Never hold urine for long for the need of an appropriately clean washroom in public places. For an episode of UTI, take, Nitrofurantoin 100 milligrams at bedtime for three days as the preferred antibiotic. Presently take tablet Tamsulosin 0.2 milligrams at bedtime, and tablet Tolterodine 2 milligrams at bedtime. Both come as a combination also in Roliflo OD (Tamsulosin and Tolterodine) two milligrams.

Thank you for consulting me.
