Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am in a very confusing and worrying situation and the NHS does not take my health problem seriously. I have a repetitive urinary tract infection and persistent vaginal candida. I have dealt with it since I was a kid but over the past three years, it got worse and both of them cannot be treated. The recent symptoms that I face include peeing more often than usual, cannot hold urine and its appearance is cloudy, having pain in my tummy, and generally, I feel unwell. Three weeks ago, I did a course of antibiotics for five days as prescribed by the doctor. After I finished the treatment, my vagina got very swollen and is not going away with vaginal thrush cream (Canesten). As far as I know, antibiotics cause Candida overgrowth and the thrush will affect the immune system, I believe the UTI as well. It has been years since I am dealing with it and it has affected my personal life so much. Is there any treatment for it?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Recurrent UTI (urinary tract infection) in females is very common and most of the time we do not get any cause in the investigation. I suggest you get an ultrasound done KUB (kidney, uterus, bladder) with PVR (post-void residual ), uroflowmetry, and routine urine analysis. I hope you do not have diabetes or any other medical comorbidity. To deal with UTI (urinary tract infection) I suggest you take antibiotics in low doses with a course on oral antifungal to deal with candidiasis, maintain your hygiene, and take a lot of fluids daily. Do not hold urine when you have the urge to pee.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
