Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have low energy for a few days now. I have done a blood test, and I have a ferritin level of 10 ng/mL. After taking supplements, my ferritin got increased to 16 ng/mL. But, still, I suffer from weakness. My doctor advised me to have an iron infusion to raise my levels. I still have low energy, and it is affecting my daily life. Can I take an infusion now? Can it help me? Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It also depends on the level of hemoglobin. There are no additional benefits seen while having an infusion. It gives a rapid rise in hemoglobin. If you have responded to oral treatment, then it is not necessary. Please send your blood reports soon. If everything is fine, then do a thyroid test.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am attaching my blood reports and thyroid results.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Patients have a weakness, low energy, fatigue when their hemoglobin is low. At this stage, your serum iron level is fine, but the ferritin level is low which indicates your iron stores. If the hemoglobin is normal, then there is no need to take an iron infusion, and it should be avoided. You should continue taking oral iron supplements like tablet Orofer XT (Ferrous ascorbate and Folic acid) once a day for six months.

You also need to do some tests like vitamin D, thyroid profile, vitamin B12, and folic acid levels to evaluate the cause for weakness. These symptoms can also occur due to a psychological issue. So try to overcome it with willpower, daily exercise, healthy lifestyle, meditation, and yoga. It can also help you. Please report about any previous history of having black stools while taking iron supplements, any history of excessive menstruation or menstrual irregularities.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
