Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 3.5 years old son, who weighs 28 pounds, is very active and he likes to play all day. But, he is not gaining any weight, and he is very lean. He takes his meal properly, but he defecates twice or thrice daily. Do I have to worry? Or is it normal? Any diet chart or medicine recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  1. Please note that 28 pounds is fine for a 3.5 years old child. Since this is a growing phase, children become taller, which actually makes the parent think that the child is thin. Do not worry about this.
  2. Also, you can reduce giving him outside food, and I suggest you give deworming therapy every six months, to keep good health.
  3. I suggest you try using multivitamins for three months. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines after their consent.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for replying. My son had an intestinal obstruction, but luckily, he surpassed that phase without any operation. He is much better after that, but sometimes, he complains of stomach pain until he releases gas. But his weight and other small things make us worry. Any diet suggestion for such a case? Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  1. There is no special diet for an intestinal obstruction, or for that matter even if there is a resection surgery done for the same, so do not worry.
  2. Regarding the stomach pain due to gas, you can use syrup Colicaid (Simethicone) one teaspoon, only when there is a pain. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicine after their consent.
  3. His weight is fine, 50 % children of his age weigh the same. So, do not worry.
