Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a third molar or a wisdom tooth removed, which was impacted a week back. I had three stitches after the procedure. I have swelling and pain when I open my mouth. The pain is reducing every day. Today, I noticed pus formation, and with slight pressure, it came out. It was orangish-yellowish in color. Once this came out, I felt better. My doctor has recommended only Ibuprofen 340 mg, Paracetamol, and Lysozyme HCl 30 mg. He also prescribed Clindamycin 300 mg but said not to eat it after my follow-up visit on the next day after tooth removal. Can you please suggest if I need to take any other medicine? I have started taking Clindamycin three times a day from this morning. Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Well, this condition is known as dry socket. All you need to do is visit any nearby dentist if possible and get this cleaned or washed properly. Maybe after extraction, you spitted something forcefully in 24 hours. This condition is normal. Drink a good amount of water, rinse mouth with salt water properly. Visit the dentist for further cleaning of that pus. Take medicines on time if you are still following any. Wish you good health and happiness. Keep me updated with the improvements.

The Probable causes

Improper packing of the socket after extraction.

Investigations to be done

IOPA or RVG.

Probable diagnosis

Dry socket.

Treatment plan

Cleansing and proper care.

Preventive measures

Follow medications.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
