Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am currently receiving daily antibiotic infusions for a surgical wound, that has been weeping and the staples are removed. The fluid is draining on alternate days in red, yellow, or brown in color. What does it mean? I am scared. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I would like you to know that there is fluid formation when healing is going on, which keeps oozing and draining. Once the fluid is out, it takes time for further fluids to collect. Nothing to be scared of. Kindly share images of the wound if possible. Also, please describe the procedure you underwent and why?

Rest assured. You are already on antibiotics, and the wound is unlikely to get infected.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my thoracic spine for post-laminectomy pain and failure, mainly to help with my lumbar pain. I was opened in two places. The leads are placed in the spine, and the battery is in my lower proper back. The drainage is coming from the battery site and is very tender. I have no drainage from the thoracic site. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Please understand that since a foreign material has been placed, the site becomes likely to get infected. These bacteria make this pus-like fluid, and they may even interfere with adequate pain management for which you got the procedure done. But since the fluid is draining and adequate antibiotics are being given, this issue will resolve soon. It is a very common problem after this procedure but manageable. I am sure your doctor must have explained the possible complications before the procedure was performed. Just stay strong. You will be comfortable soon.
