Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 15-year-old daughter was diagnosed with PCOS last year. She also had a 6 cm by 4 cm by 4 cm cyst in one of the ovaries. Also, she has had terrible acne problems with erratic menstruation for the last 1.5 years. The doctor has prescribed her Normoz, two tablets twice a day, and Novelon. However, my daughter is not comfortable taking the Novelon tablet, but she has been taking Normoz. She has, hence, not taken Novelon since then. For the last 15 days to 20 days, she has been having trouble sleeping and increased fears while going to bed. She spent a couple of nights not sleeping at all. Her reports are enclosed. I am worried because the acne spoils her facial skin, and she also has dandruff and hair loss. We are very worried as the acne is leaving marks damaging her self-esteem. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for consulting us on icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

Her sleep issues are due to multiple health problems. Her stress levels will decrease if she gets normal menstrual periods, gets relieved of her PCOS, and becomes free of her acne issues. But it takes time to settle down, and I have also seen her laboratory reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). So, I would like to make slight changes in her daily routine. I suggest you to make her follow the instructions mentioned below,

1. Let her start with a new passion and pursue it. Most of my patients have defeated these diseases through self-determination.

2. Keep a healthy diet comprising of vegetables, salads, and fruits.

3. Meditation, going to the gym, and practicing yoga will help her calm down. Also, doing kegel exercises, aerobics, and following an active lifestyle is the key to a better routine.

Hormonal adjustments will improve her health condition with time. Therefore, we do not need to add any more medications. So a little patience is required, and let us wait and see.

I hope this has helped you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Can you advise if it is fine to continue with Normoz and not take Novelon?

Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, she should take the medications according to the prescription. But remember, there is no definite treatment for PCOS. Stress and being overweight increase the complications.

She was given two hormonal combination pills, Normoz (nutritional supplement) and the other, a multivitamin, and I think she should take both. But there will be a delayed outcome in the ovulation as ovulation in PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is abnormal and irregular.

I hope this has helped you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
