How to treat the painless swelling in vagina?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had one-sided swelling near my labia majora since last month. I am an unmarried 26-year-old female. There is no pain or discharge, and my menstrual cycle is normal. I tried a warm compress and applied Candifem ointment for seven days, but there is not much improvement. My Hb levels are normal. I have attached photos for your reference.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the attachments (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) and your history, this seems to be a Bartholin's cyst. It is the swelling of the Bartholin gland situated in the labia majora. It is a benign condition. Though at present it is not painful, it might get infected someday and can cause pain. I do not want to scare you, but it would be a wiser decision to surgically remove Bartholin's cyst when it is not infected, as complete excision or removal of Bartholin's cyst is possible. Once an infection develops, it can turn into an abscess causing pain, and complete removal would become difficult. So, I suggest you visit a gynecologist near your area and get it managed at the earliest.

Wishing you good health.

Thank you.
