Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend is B negative group and I am O positive group. Is it advisable for us to get married or give birth?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, the blood group is not at all barrier in your marriage. Your wife is Rh negative, so will be given anti-D immunoglobulin injection during pregnancy at 28th and 34th week of gestation to prevent hemolytic disease of the newborn. So do not worry about that. I will suggest you one investigation before doing marriage that is Hb electrophoresis by HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) method to rule out hemoglobinopathy which should be done before marriage.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
