Should a patient with blood in his stools during bowel movements be concerned about colon cancer?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 40 years old and noticed blood during bowel movements. The blood on the toilet paper was bright red but looked a little darker around the stool. I usually have hard stools most of the time. The bowel movement was uncomfortable, and I had a burning sensation. I started taking supplements and got extremely bloated, but the bowel movements were comfortable, and the bleeding subsided. I am worried about colon cancer.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Mostly it will be an anal fissure and not cancer. The symptoms you have told me are all consistent with fissures. You must avoid constipation at all costs. I suggest you take plenty of fluids and water daily with lots of fibrous foods, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid spicy and fried foods. Get a professional consultation in person. You may be advised to use some local ointment to soothe and relieve the pain. You may also be asked to take a sitz bath.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
