Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old male. I was previously diagnosed with acid reflux, and I took the medicine Lansoprazole. Now I have a constant sensation of a lump or blockage in the throat and occasional on and off headaches. Please help.

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. Thank you for writing and I understand your concern. Such symptoms can be due to bacterial infections such as streptococcus, so antibiotic treatment is required. Most probably, it can be tonsillitis. Please tell me: 1. Do you have redness at the back of your mouth? 2. Are there any difficulties in swallowing? 3. Are you allergic to any antibiotics? Please answer so I can prescribe the medicine accordingly. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor, Thank you for the reply. I cannot see any redness at the back of the mouth, it all seems normal, and I have no difficulty swallowing. As far as I am aware, I have no allergies. Thank you.

Hello, Welcome back to icliniq.com. In such a scenario, I would suggest you increase the dosage of the tablet Lansoprazole to 40 mg. It can be due to acid reflux. Acid reflux occurs due to various reasons such as smoked food, spicy food, smoking, alcohol, and stress. All these are common factors that cause acidity and can make you feel irritation or a certain kind of sensation. There is no sign of infection, so that it can be due to acidity. Can you please tell me since when do you have this sensation? Do you have any stress? Or the habit of smoking and drinking alcohol? Let me know.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I just had another look in my mouth, and one of my tonsils appears swollen, which concerns me. I am constantly stressed out about something, especially since these feelings started occurring. I have had this sensation since around the end of December. I drink very lightly, not more than the recommended weekly intake, and I have smoked lightly for about a year, but now I have quit.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If tonsils are swollen, it is due to infection only, and bacteria causes it. So I would suggest you take five days of the antibiotic course.

1. Tablet Augmentin (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid) 625 mg twice a day after meal.

2. One multivitamin tablet before sleeping.

Take these two medicines for five days. Stop smoking and drinking alcohol for some time. Drink water in a reasonable amount.

Let me know after five days.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
