Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 85-year-old woman. I have reflux and a hiatus hernia. I am suffering from a consistent cough and a blocked throat. What could it be?

Please help.

Hello,

Thanks for your consultation with icliniq.com.

I reviewed your case history.

There can be two possibilities.

1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease comes up to the throat, irritating the throat causing cough and something stuck inside the throat.

2) You might have a post-COVID cough, which will take some time to resolve.

For the first issue, I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.

1) Take frequent small meals.

2) Avoid lying immediately after meals.

3) Take dinner two to three hours before you go to bed.

4) Try to slightly elevate your head end of the bed. This will reduce acid reflux.

5) Take a tablet of Pantoprazole (antacid) 40 milligrams before food twice daily.

For the second issue, I suggest you do the following instructions.

1) Do a chest X-ray to see your lung's status.

2. Consult a specialist doctor for a physical examination.

3) Use a frequent nebulizer at home.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
