What are the cocaine poisoning symptoms in children?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My stepdaughter, who is eight years old, had belly pain, blood in the anus, and urine. Her organic father is a drug addict; we think he gave her Cocaine to eat. Would there be symptoms of having Cocaine?

Please guide.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concerns.

A single dose of Cocaine can not cause the side effects of blood in urine and stool. If taken for a long period, then it can lead to the above symptoms. It can be a stomach infection or a blood abnormality, as blood is present in both urine and stool.

I think you should do a complete blood count (CBC) with platelets, prothrombin time, and partial thromboplastin time with kaolin (PT/PTTK). Along with these, a stool for occult blood to find out the cause has to be carried out.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the advice.

Regarding your answer, I said that her organic father gave her to eat Cocaine once. Would that not be enough to have these symptoms?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, single-time usage will result in nausea, vomiting, delirium, and unconsciousness, but not bleeding from the anus and urine. Take care of her.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
