Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have quite a severe crowding of my lower front teeth, with one tooth pushed out significantly that I had like to fix. I also have a slight overbite on the top, but I have six veneers here, so this is manageable. I have been told I can have aligners on top and bottom, and they will work by expanding my dental arches and also no need for extraction or shaving down the sides of other teeth. But that there is a risk my veneers may move. I have also been recommended fixed ceramic braces on the bottom only. However, another practice has told me it is impossible to move the arches beyond teenage hood and that the treatment time for aligners will be way longer than with fixed braces, six to nine months. Which would be the better treatment? Please advice. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your reports (attachment removed for protecting patient's identity). I can understand your concern about your malalignment of teeth. The second question, that you cannot move your teeth is wrong, and you can do it anytime. Orthodontic treatment only for the lower arch is ideal, but you may need the replacement of your bridge, though optional. Moving your upper teeth will be difficult not for the dentist but for you because there is an abrasion in the posterior teeth of the upper jaws. I will recommend you fixed orthodontic treatment for only the mandibular arch. If you have any further questions, please let me know and upload the image of the buccal surface of your teeth by retracting your cheek with finger on both sides. Thank you.
