Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had unprotected sex with my partner three months ago and I took an I-pill four hours later due to which I had withdrawal bleeding after three days which lasted for six days. The next period came five days later than the usual date and it lasted for four days. The next month, I had unprotected sex again and my periods are delayed by more than two weeks. I took a home pregnancy test. The first usage said it was negative and the second did not give any results. Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your post.

  • If you had unprotected sex one month after taking I-pill, it is not going to protect you from conceiving.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. I took the test again a few minutes ago, and the test came out negative. For accuracy, I will repeat it in the morning. I just wanted to know if the I-pill can delay the cycle by more than 14 days or make the periods irregular?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • Generally, I-pill can delay the cycle by about a week to 10 days. But, it affects only the cycle that follows the I-pill intake. The subsequent cycles will be normal.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Since there is no pregnancy and the periods are delayed, is there a safe way to induce the periods? Or, is there a medicine that I can take that would not affect my health?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • For inducing your period, you will have to receive medicines which are generally used to induce abortion. So, what I would suggest doing is to wait for a week. It seems likely that the I-pill has caused the delay in the periods.
  • Repeat the pregnancy test after a week, if the period does not come by then. Because, there is no shortcut to induce a period without side effects. In my opinion, it is not needed as the pregnancy test is negative.

So wait and watch is the best we can do.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

So, it has been three days since I last spoke to you and I took the test twice again on two different mornings, and they came out negative again. Can it be because of stress that I missed my periods?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • I will not blame stress, but it may be contributing to the delay. Instead, I think it is due to the I-pill.
  • If your pregnancy test is negative, you should not worry about a delay in periods.
