Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from depression for the past five months. I am finding it difficult to get adjusted to a new city and new life. I am not able to communicate with anyone and I feel lonely. I am getting sick very often and not able to stop overthinking.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Sometimes it takes time to get adjusted to a new place and it can give you stress. You may have a major depressive disorder. There is non-pharmacological management for your depression. I suggest you follow a few instructions mentioned below that can help you.

  1. You should do exercises or at least go for a walk daily for 30 to 45 minutes.
  2. You should meditate every day for 20 minutes. Just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not force yourself to stop your thoughts, just let it be. It will relax you.
  3. You should eat healthy home-cooked foods and avoid junk foods.
  4. You must drink enough water.
  5. You should spend quality time with your friends and family daily. If you are living away from your family, connect with them through video calls.
  6. You should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills, language, or musical instruments.
  7. You should get adequate seven to eight hours of sleep daily.
  8. You should avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse.

Live your life, do not just spend it. Be bold and confident. If you still have symptoms that persist after following the advice for four to six weeks, then you need to start medications for a short duration.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
