Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female. A few days back, I had a fever. After that, I was sick with a mild fever and sore throat. On the next day, the sore throat became severe and it hurt while talking and swallowing. The right side of my throat was swollen and I suspected it was a tonsil. Later, my sore throat began to subside but I started getting a cough. Currently, I am having a persistent cough, and very little throat pain, but intense earache that has spread to my jaw and hurts constantly. Throughout the week I have taken some Ibuprofen and cough drops. I am not taking any medications currently.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

You are having an upper respiratory tract infection which has led to blockage of the eustachian tube opening leading to earache. I would suggest you do Betadine (Povidone-iodine) gargling three times a day and steam inhalation four to five times a day. I would also suggest the following.

Use Xylometazoline nasal drops (Xylometazoline Hydrochloride), one drop in each nostril twice a day for two to three days.

Antibiotics like Azithromycin 500 mg can be taken once a day after food along with an antacid like Pantoprazole 40 mg before food once a day for five days. You can continue using Ibuprofen Paracetamol for fever and pain if needed. For cough, you can take syrup Alex (Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan, and Phenylephrine) up to three times a day as prescribed. Consult with your specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medications.

Thank you.
