Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I would like to know some details of my reports. Please advise.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It seems to be normal but there are some mild changes. There is a slight decrease in PCV (packed cell volume) and elevation in ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate). But the other values are not too low or high to cause serious problems. There are some mild changes and this occurs due to fever. ESR usually gets increased due to allergies. So, you can take tablet Cetirizine 10 mg for three days. Please mention the duration of fever and the medications taken for fever. Please mention whether you have a runny nose or difficulty in breathing.

The Probable causes

You have common flu.

Investigations to be done

You need to do CBC (complete blood count).

Differential diagnosis

You seem to have allergies.

Probable diagnosis

You have fever.

Treatment plan

You can take tablet Paracetamol 500 mg on an SOS (save our soul) basis and take tablet Cetirizine 10 mg once a day after taking meals.

Preventive measures

Drink lukewarm water frequently.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My son had a fever for eight days. He had a cold and cough. But now, he has a cough and his temperature is normal. He took Azithrol once a day, Allegra, and Dolo for cough. He was also taking Aerodil.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Continue giving the same medication to your son. His blood reports are normal and there is nothing to be worried about.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My son is having a fever of 99 degrees after 8 PM. He is absolutely fine during the whole day. He is not taking medications now.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

For fever, he can take tablet Dolo 650 mg once after taking meals for three days. He can also take tablet Pantop (Pantoprazole) once a day before meals for three days, and tablet Zincovit 500 mg once after taking meals for seven days. If he has any other symptoms such as a runny nose or sore throat, then he needs to take antibiotics.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

He does not have a runny nose. But he has a dry cough while vomiting.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

He can take tablet Azithromycin 500 mg once a day for three days. Have a follow-up after three days.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Still, he has a fever of 99 degrees even after taking antibiotics. What to do?

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. If there are no other symptoms other than fever, then he can continue taking the same medications for another five days. Please do a VDRL (venereal disease research laboratory test) to rule out typhoid. Please mention whether he has a fever throughout the day or only in the evening. Please mention the medications taken now.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

He gets a fever only in the evening after 6 PM. He coughs and vomits with phlegm. He is not having any other symptoms. I was giving him antibiotics only with Dolo 650 on an SOS basis.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the reports. Everything seems to be up to the mark. There is nothing serious. It takes time to get resolved. You can give Pantop and Zincovit. For cough syrup, he can take Xenkuff-AM (Ambroxol hydrochloride with Chlorpheniramine maleate) 3 ml twice a day. Please do not give water after taking the syrup.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
