Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband and I have been in a monogamous relationship (I believe) for 14 years. We had sexual partners before this. A few weeks into my first pregnancy, he and I have just broken out into HPV genital warts. Is it possible for warts to appear 14 years later? Is it more probable that my partner has been unfaithful?

Answered by Dr. Sushil Kakkar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have noted your concern. Most HPV infection is self-limited. Most of the infected individuals are able to eradicate the virus within 20 to 24 months of infection. However, HPV infection can persist and it is possible to develop genital warts years after infection. Therefore it is hard to know when did one acquire the infection if he or she has had more than one sexual partner.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
