Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 22-year-old daughter suffers from what she calls electric headaches daily and sometimes more than once a day. She describes it as her eyes will stop working together (usually triggered by light or movement in her periphery ). When this happens, her brain seems to start giving electric shock for some time, like trying to reset the brain to have the eyes work together. When this period is over and if the trigger is no longer present, then electric shock stops, and then she has to lie for some time to recover from this exhausting painful experience. Recovery can take up to 30-60 minutes. Eyes are shut, and do not move if the trigger is still present if another round of shock happens. It can start in any position like sitting, standing, or lying down. She has to lie down immediately. Any ideas as to what these are and what to do.

She is currently on Xyrem, Methylene blue, Azithromycin.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Her symptoms are suggestive of migraine attacks or focal epilepsy seizures.

For this reason, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam and performing some tests:

1. Brain MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

2. Thyroid hormone levels.

3. EEG (electroencephalogram).

You should discuss with her doctor the above tests.

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need them.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
