Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sex with a sex worker 28 days ago. During intercourse, the condom slipped to half of my penis. Then we stopped our intercourse and removed the condom. She started giving hand job to me. From the next day, I am having penile pain and rashes. I went for a test and was diagnosed with UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). I also did an HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) test, and the results came as negative. Now, I have a fever after 29 days of this incident. Is it of concern?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If there was a slippage of condom, it would be considered as unprotected exposure. It is good that your HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) test is negative after 13 days of exposure. But, I suggest you get tested for HIV with a fourth-generation rapid test to confirm HIV.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello, Thanks for the reply.

I have given the wrong information. It was protected sex with no condom slippage or rupture. My question is, what are the chances of being HIV positive after being tested negative in HIV PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) after 13 days of exposure?

Thanks.

Hello, Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If it was completely protected sex, the chances of acquisition of HIV are nil. HIV-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is highly sensitive. But it is advisable to get an HIV antibody test. I suggest you get tested for HIV by fourth-generation HIV rapid test now and if the result is negative, get a confirmatory HIV rapid antibody test at three months of last exposure.

Best wishes.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

If I came negative after 13 days of exposure, what is the chance of being positive in the HIV combo test on day 28?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The chances are exceptionally rare, but please follow the recommendations.

Regars.
